Loosen Up

Fashion has always been about extremes, opposites, rebellion, constant change and borrowing from the past while still being modern. Fashion is much like the weather where I live, we have a saying that says, “If you don’t like the weather wait five minutes and it will change.” and likewise if you do not like what is in style right now just wait; it will all be different next season.

And so, this brings me to what is finally the antithesis of skinny leg jeans (and not soon enough!), designers get tired of one trend and are ready for a new one (plus they have to keep coming up with something different so we will keep buying) thus allow me to introduce “wide leg jeans”!

I have always loved wide leg jeans, especially those that look like trousers. They are extremely classy and look flattering on everyone, because they elongate the leg and can hide curvier hips and thighs. Thanks to a few celebrities like Sandra Bullock and Eva Mendes this trend has really caught on and there are quite a few styles out there by some of your favorite brands like, 7 For All Mankind, Goldsign, Hudson, Citizens of Humanity and Habitual. This trend is worth a try, just remember to balance the wide leg with a substantial heel or wedge shoe and keep your top simple and streamlined.

The jeans on Sandra Bullock are Hudson’s Wide Leg Jean (available at www.truejeans.com) and Eva Mendes is wearing the Gavin Jean by Diane von Furstenberg (available at www.net-a-porter.com). Shop other styles and brands of wide leg jeans at www.scoopnyc.com. If you want a true trouser jean check out the Tribeca Trouser by Kasil, available at www.truejeans.com.

If you don’t like this trend just wait, it too will change, you gotta love fashion!
