Halloween is just around the corner and now is the time to start thinking about your costume. Instead of spending your hard earned dollars on overpriced, mass produced, ill-fitting, cheap and sleazy looking costumes that come in clear plastic bags opt for one of these stunning looks.

You end up with great makeup and a dress that you can get more than one use out of, a total win-win!

Haute Couture on a Budget

Can you guess the designer of this dress?

Dolce & Gabbana was the first name that popped into my head when I saw this dress. It’s dark, gothic yet feminine print, sexy tiered fitted silhouette and luscious lace trim make it look like it just stepped off the runway and into my waiting arms. But lucky for me and my budget it is not made by Dolce & Gabbana and does not carry the hefty price tag that comes with a haute couture runway confection. It is actually available for $198 at White House Black Market, an absolute steal as far as I am concerned! If you have ever wanted to own a Dolce & Gabbana frock but can’t afford it’s $2,000 price tag, run don’t walk (this dress will sell out fast) to and order this dress.

Get The Skinny

Skinny jeans are a must-have for spring to balance out the larger proportion shirts that are dominating store racks. (See Big Is In to learn more about the big, baggy trend.) I seem to have a hard time finding skinny jeans that fit, if they fit around my waist they seem to be too tight in the thigh and if they fit in the thigh they are way too big around the waist. I think designers have forgotten that not all women have toothpick model legs and need to design accordingly.

If you, like me, have a hard time finding skinny jeans that fit comfortably you will love these new skinny jeans from J. Jill. I know, you are asking yourself can J. Jill really make stylish looking skinny jeans. That was my thought too until I tried them on. I stopped in there the other day when I was shopping with my mom and decided to try them on while she was shopping.

I was thrilled when I pulled them on, zipped them up and realized they fit perfectly around the waist (not too high, not too low) and the leg was fitted and slim but not squeezing too tight. They had just enough stretch to make them fitted yet comfortable. The midnight wash is super dark and makes them look very expensive (when in reality they only cost $79). They are definitely worth a try and my pair has replaced my skinny 7 for all mankind jeans permanently! Available online at

Up In Smoke

I am proof that advertising makeup in fashion and beauty magazines really works, I see a cool ad and then make a point to buy and try. My newest item to purchase that I am currently obsessed with is CoverGirl’s Smoky ShadowBlast Eye Colour Stick. These eye sticks make creating a sultry smoky eye super easy and fast with their specially designed tips. You use the rounded tip to apply a base layer over your entire lid and then use the tapered tip to define your crease and lashline. Voila, perfect smoky eyes! You can watch a video demo at, click on Smokin Look Demo. Available online at

Don’t Ask Don’t Tell

Don’t worry today’s post has nothing to do with the military policy of don’t ask, don’t tell, it has to do with my irritation at Sephora. I recently learned from a former Sephora employee that if you ask for a sample they will give one for any product in the store. This caused me some annoyance because if I had known that or if my salesperson has informed me of this, it would of saved me some time and money.

I have been trying to find the perfect eye cream and each time I go into Sephora and ask for help they guide me to a product and I buy it, only to not like it once I get it home and give it a try. I guess the salesperson was too intent on making a sale to do the right thing and give me a couple of eye cream samples to take home and try. So in case you didn’t know, you have to ask for a sample because they don’t seem to offer them up on their own! Next time you are out shopping make sure you ask for a sample before you make an investment, it will save you time and money in the long run.

Cheap Trick – 5 Must Haves

You can still look fab in these trying economic times by keeping an eye out for stylish, yet expensive items that look more expensive than they are. One of my favorite shops on the web for this is It is chocked full of trendy, inexpensive items that will breathe new life into last year’s fall wardrobe. Here are my 5 favorite must haves.

1980’s Boyfriend Blazers are huge this season and very versatile, wear with jeans or over a cocktail dress, and with the price ($52) of this one you can afford to indulge in other trends.

Dare I say it? Yes I think I will, the holidays are just around the corner as well as the crush of party invites. This black drapey lace trimmed dress is elegant yet modern and will look great dressed up with sparkly bangles and sky high stilettos or dressed down with leggings and booties. It will also look great with the above blazer thrown over it. Plus it’s mouth dropping price of $38 will leave enough for you to buy presents. Did I mention that the drapey fabric will also hide any signs of holiday overeating.

Long over lean is a big silhouette this season and this $37 dress/tunic looks way more expensive than it is thanks in part to its unique details and high style quotient. Wear it paired with dark tights and boots and it’s casual elegance and tunic length will complement leggings and skinny jeans too.

Turn heads in this $42 satin ruffled party top. They won’t have any idea how much money you saved when they see you wearing it paired with black skinny pants and bejeweled heels.

Jewelry can always add newness to anything in your closet. This $28 necklace looks like it was found in an out of the way antique store or dug out from a treasure trove of vintage clothing and accessories.

Buy or Borrow?

Do you ever wish you were a celebrity and could just borrow pretty much any outfit you wanted from every designer you love?

Well, with the help of you can feel like a celebrity and “borrow” a wide range of high-end to couture clothes minus the annoying paparazzi. Wear Today Gone Tomorrow uses the same basic idea of, where you sign up for a membership and then borrow items of clothing (instead of handbags) by the week or month and when you are finished wearing the garment you send it back.

It is a pretty simple and straightforward idea and great for when you want to look really great for a special event but aren’t thrilled about spending $300 or more for a dress you may only wear once. The only really tricky part is that as you know, clothes run and fit very different between designers and even different seasons but Wear Today Gone Tomorrow has a sophisticated size chart that allows you to determine what your size would be in each item and if you are unhappy with the fit you will get a refund.

Wear Today Gone Tomorrow carries a lot of high-end items from designers like Alberta Ferreti, Badgley Mischka, Carolina Herrera, DvF, Dolce & Gabbana, Ella Moss, Emilio Pucci, Fendi, Jill Stuart, Marc By Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, Nina Ricci, Prada, Stella McCartney, Theory, Tory Burch, Valentino, Vera Wang and many more. It is truly a sensible indulgence! Check it out at
