Color Block: Label Love DVF

I know it’s just January but the stores and websites are filling up with the bright hues that will usher in spring. Bright shades of the rainbow look to take a place of prominence in many designer collections with color blocking being a major trend. No one has done that better than Diane von Furstenberg, a perennial favorite of mine. Her early spring clothes are simple yet stunning in shades of hot pink, tangerine, yellow and turquoise. Every piece is extremely wearable and will make a versatile addition to your wardrobe. All outfits available at

This is actually a dress that just looks like a two-piece ensemble. So easy and comfy yet so chic.

Free Fur All – How To Wear A Fur Vest

We can thank Rachel Zoe for glamorizing the fur vest and making it a must-have this season. The fur vest is an easy way to jazz up your fall and winter wardrobe.

Just keep in mind these few basic tips when shopping for and wearing one:

1. Due to the bulky nature of the vest keep your bottoms slim, think leggings, skinny jeans, fitted dresses and dark tights.

2. Cinch and define your waist by adding a belt over the vest.

3. Look for vests that have a soft, silky feel that doesn’t shed (I prefer faux).

4. Stick to natural looking colors, tan, blonde, gray and black. Avoid white or you will look like the Abominable Snow Monster.

If your style is more traditional throw the fur vest over a solid, dark colored silk button-down shirt, skinny jeans and booties or leggings and knee-high boots. Layer on a long necklace and an armful of bangles (roll the sleeves up on the shirt).

If your style is fashion-forward pair your vest with a solid long sleeve black tee, sequin shorts, black tights and suede booties. Add sparkly chandelier earrings.

Try pairing your vest with a slim sweater dress, add tights and platform heels for an extra sleek look. Perfect for holiday parties or date night.

A leather tie or belt will help cinch your waist and add a bit of definition to your figure.

Covetable Collection

Every season I browse through the latest styles from many of the designers I used to carry in my store, imagining which pieces I would have bought for my customers. Nanette Lepore by far is one of my absolute favorite lines and this season is chock full of amazing must-have pieces that look current and modern with a touch of vintage charm that will have true staying power. Each piece is truly an investment that can be worn again and again. This collection seriously has me missing buying at wholesale! All pieces available online at

Vine Talk Dress: Bohemian flare and elegant ease, pair now with high-heeled loafers and wear later with patterned tights and boots. It can even pitch hit at a casual holiday party.

Tasting Top: If separates are more your speed, try this top with skinny jeans and jeweled flats or skinny black tuxedo pants and dressy booties.

It’s never to early to start thinking about the holidays and these dresses are the cream of the crop, sure to make you the best dressed.

Nanette Lepore’s tailoring is unprecedented making her jackets and coats fit like a glove. The Napa Valley Coat in teal will add a punch when worn with your basic black and brown and the Riesling Coat’s rich tweed and fur collar will glamorize anything, even when worn to the gym over your workout clothes.

An amazing collection of dressy blouses that can be worn with everything from jeans to pencil skirts to tuxedo pants. Wear to work under a suit or out to a party with sparkly jewelry.

Two of the sexiest basic black skirts, wear with anything and everything and look amazing.

The perfect basic black dress, exceptionally made that will last forever. A true elegant workhorse with a chameleon-like quality. Change it’s entire look with a mix of different accessories, go casual with dark tights, booties and a scarf or wear with sky-high stilettos and a big statement necklace. It’s the perfect base to show off a fabulous range of accessories. Plus it looks like something Kate Middleton would have in her closet.

Love the mix of feminine and tough in this military-inspired sweater. I plan on wearing it with leggings and flat boots as well as to the barn with breeches and riding boots to keep me cozy during early morning, chilly riding lessons.

Tried, True and Looking New

I am seriously loving Diane von Furstenberg’s newest addition to her long line of amazing dresses. The Agata is a sophisticated yet playful take on a 1980’s cocktail dress. The bow detail (a nod to the 80’s) combines with elegant draping and form fitting structure to create a stunning and modern dress perfect for a cocktail party, wedding or work related dinner. The silhouette is sliming yet forgiving and works on all ages. Available in three colors and one print ($385) at and

The jewel hued red Agata will look stunning now worn with nude heels and can do double duty during the holidays with leopard heels or boots.

Stand out from the crowd in the apple green Agata made from sumptuous silk. Pair with sky high nude heels or jeweled gold stilettos and big gold earrings.

I also love this black and white print, it’s very modern and will look amazing paired with red suede peep toes and an armful of bangles.

Buy it in black for an investment piece that will never go out of style. Wear it season after season mixing up your accessories.

Sneak Peek into Fall: The long sleeve version of this dress for Fall is stunning. Plus, do you know how hard it is to find a long sleeve cocktail dress?!

What To Wear: Beach Wedding

My mother-in-law recently enlisted my help finding something to wear to a beach wedding she was luckily invited to. Beach weddings are still formal events and casual beach wear is not acceptable (ie swimsuits, swimsuit coverups, shorts, ribbed cotton tank tops and rubber flip flops). Instead look for loose, airy summer dresses in dressy fabrics and bright colors paired with jeweled flip flops and sandals. Finish the look with an armful of bangles and long layered necklaces and don’t forget the sunscreen.

This long chiffon halter dress was made for a beach wedding. It’s dressy silhouette paired with a pink kaleidoscope print is beach perfect. Add these Kate Spade jeweled flat sandals. Dress available at and shoes available at

This light-as-a-breeze cotton dress in stunning aquamarine will look amazing paired with jeweled flip flops, long necklaces and bangles. Add this 3/4 length gray jacket for a bit more coverage as the evening progresses. Dress available at and jacket available at Shoes available at

I love this bohemian print dress cinched with a wide leather belt, gladiator sandals and a white jacket. Dress available at, jacket available at, belt available at and shoes available at

Go short and flirty with this fuschia embellished dress available at and feminine jeweled bow sandals available at

Go Undercover

It seems like every year when spring gives way to summer many women forget to make adjustments to their undergarments to echo the new lightweight, light colored and breezy garments they are donning to beat the heat. I am always shocked when I see my first black thong showing through white pants. I mean how hard is it to look in the mirror before you leave!

In order to avoid these major faux pas keep these tips in mind when getting dressed:

Always, always wear nude colored underwear under white or other light colored pants. Leave the bright colors, whites and prints in the underwear drawer when wearing anything white.

A thong does not always look invisible, especially under lightweight, clingy jersey fabric and tight cotton pants. Thong lines, in my humble opinion, are way worse than panty lines! If you see thong lines switch to a no show, invisible edge pair of panties or boy shorts.

T-shirts and tank tops reign supreme in the summer and they demand a few bra changes. First invest in a great t-shirt bra that will look smooth under all tees and tanks, leave your lace bras in the drawer when wearing a lightweight tee. Only wear nude colored bras under white tops.

I am also totally against allowing your bra straps to show with tank tops and halter tops, this is not a fashion statement, you look like you belong on Jerry Springer. If your bra straps are showing switch to a strapless bra, end of story. I am not a fan of clear bra straps either, we can still see them and you still look trashy. Go strapless!

Also, on the subject of lightweight, clingy jersey fabric that dominates summer dresses, make sure you look at yourself from all angles before walking out of the house. Yes, these dresses are cool and comfy but they can show every lump and bump in a not so flattering light and often need support garments underneath that zero out their cool and comfy quotient. Unless you have zero percent body fat and no cellulite you might consider breezy chiffon or linen when looking for casual dresses or invest in great support garments.

My favorite summer supporting cast:

Soma Vanishing Edge Hipster literally looks invisible under anything and everything you wear. Buy them in nude to wear with all your whites. Truly Amazing!

Soma Travelers Allura Underwire T-Shirt Bra is the best I have found, it provides seamless, full coverage all day shape-enhancing support while being extremely comfortable.

Invest in Spanx’s Bra-Cha-Cha Strapless Bra and Bra-llelujah Racerback Bra to keep bra straps from ruining your sleeveless and strapless tops and dresses.

Spanx Hide and Sleek Full Slip is 5% slip and 95% personal trainer! It keeps you looking slim and toned under lightweight, clingy fabrics.

Don’t Quit Your Day Job

Dear Rachel Zoe,

Don’t quit your day job! It looks like you are a better stylist than a designer. Your strength lies in creating jaw dropping outfits using pieces created by other designers not in creating outfits out of thin air.

I just flipped through Rachel Zoe’s debut collection look book and I was far from impressed. Don’t get me wrong, there are some very cute outfits but like other celebrity clothing lines, nothing in the look book screams new, innovative, modern or anything that can’t be found at a much lower price in stores like Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Nordstrom or White House Black Market. Maybe Rachel should take a page out of her protege Nicole Richie’s design notebook; Nicole’s Winter Kate collection is far and away more unique and innovative.

Don’t feel too sad for Rachel Zoe, she still has her amazing stylist career, a tv show, a QVC collection, a website and pretty much anything else she slaps her name on but designer isn’t really something she should add to her resume! I expected her debut collection to be over the top, glamorous and just more.

My favorite looks:

Yuck Looks: (They look cheap!)

Looks like something off a junior store sale rack and worn to a middle school dance:

Ruffles, been there, done that:

No, No and No:

What do you think? Like it or no?

I am always on the lookout for cute, comfy dresses that are easy to wear with leggings and flats as well as dress up nicely with heels. I found a treasure trove of of these dresses from They are the essence of cute, comfy and fashionable as well as reasonably priced.

This dress has a very feminine yet mod feel that makes it so easy to wear with a ponytail and flats or layers of necklaces and chunky heels.

This simple and elegant dress has an ease to it that makes it as perfect as a glass of cold tea on a hot day. Wear with flip flops or wedges with an armful of bangles.

This just looks comfy while still maintaining a stylish silhouette and details, wear with knee high boots or white Superga sneakers and tan legs.

This indigo cotton dress is a perfect complement to black leggings and boots but can also dress down as a swimsuit coverup with sandals.
