Ready, Set, Shop

The turkey leftovers are finished, pumpkins have been tossed, fall leaf garland has been replaced by lit greenery, which can only mean one thing-it is time to shop til you drop! Today is affectionately referred to as Cyber Monday because everyone gets online to start their holiday shopping. Many online stores offer great deals and discounts as well as free shipping. Here are a few of my fave online stores and their sales today. Enjoy and try to get some work done in between shopping!

Two of My Favorite Things

I recently found a new blog that happily combines two of my favorite things, horses and fashion. You may not know it but the name of my blog Clotheshorse really refers to my love of clothes and horses thus making me a true clotheshorse. I grew up riding and showing horses and still do while also loving all things fashion. You will see stacks of fashion magazines sharing space with horse magazines throughout my house and I love nothing more than when they are combined!

A french blog, La Cavaliere Masquee, was started to create a place to combine beautiful and interesting images of horses and fashion that are so often used in conjunction in fashion photography and advertising. There are tons of beautiful images to scroll through. Check it out at www.lacavalieremasquee.com.

My Own Horse, His name is Woody and he is a 16’3 hand Quarter Horse (he is half thoroughbred). The first picture is him under saddle and the second picture is him taking a nap looking smart in his black watch plaid blanket.

American Eagle Outfitters For Grown Ups

If walking into American Eagle Outfitters invokes flashbacks to high school and (gasp) even middle school and you suddenly feel as if you are ancient compared to the teeny boppers working and shopping there, but you still like the laid back yet hip style of the clothes, then it may be time for you to graduate to Martin + Osa.

Martin + Osa is the grown up, sophisticated version of American Eagle. Martin + Osa focuses on the 28 to 40 year old customer and offers contemporary, classic American style with an emphasis on denim. The store’s name and inspiration comes from Martin and Osa Johnson, a globetrotting husband and wife team from Kansas who explored Africa and the South Pacific Islands, chronicling their travels in photographs and diaries.

Look for great on trend denim, buttery soft cardigans, elegant graphic tees, hip leather jackets and contemporary tops as well as inexpensive jewelry and accessories that echo much more expensive trendy brands. Check it out online at www.martinandosa.com.

Swim Savvy

A friend of mine is heading off on vacation soon and sent me an e-mail asking if I knew of any great online swimsuit shopping sites and I e-mailed back a list of some of the best swimsuit shops on the web. I thought I would share that list with you because swim weather is really just around the corner and you can never start too early looking for the perfect suit. Each website is a hyper-link, just click on it and it will take you to the website. Happy Shopping!

1. www.jcrew.com, a great collection of sophisticated yet simple suits in a wide variety of styles and colors as well as cute cover ups

2. www.athleta.com, this website tends to focus on more athletic, action type swimsuits, but they have a great collection worth browsing, this website allows you to purchase your tops and bottoms separately so you can put together the most flattering swimsuit

3. www.shop.nordstrom.com, they carry a nice range of popular brands like Juicy Couture, Milly, Shoshanna, Trina Turk and Vix to name a few, you can also shop by body type which can help steer you in the right direction

4. www.shopbop.com, one of my favorite online shops they carry the best of everything and have a decent swim section full of trendy suits

5. www.southmoonunder.com, a fun website full or bright, colorful flirty swimsuits, they have a large selection of cute bikinis and a pretty decent selection of tankinis and one piece suits, the Find The Perfect Suit section has some great swimsuit shopping tips

6. www.everythingbutwater.com, a website devoted entirely to swimwear, you can shop by designer, shop by category, shop by fit solutions, shop by occasion (honeymoon, spring break etc…) and shop by trend, they also have a great Fit and Style Guide

7. www.neimanmarcus.com, your one stop shop for high end swimwear, I love the suits by Burberry, Ella Moss, Milly and Diane von Furstenberg

8. www.couturecandy.com, they have a large selection of Vix swimsuits as well as lesser known, but still great, designers, you will have a better chance of looking original if you shop one of these brands

Tee Up

There are a few fashion trends that come and go in a blink of an eye (ponchos, Jelly Kelly purses, black denim) and others that seem to stay in style and become part of everyone’s wardrobe (boot cut jeans, capris, hoop earrings). It seems like graphic tees just may join the ranks of boot cut jeans or capris by continuing to avoid the “whats out” list. Every season they keep coming back and are worn by men and women alike. They are easy and catchy and dress up jeans or shorts like a plain tee never can and it allows the wearer to display a bit of their personality or beliefs. So here’s to the graphic tee, may it continue to be worn and not put in the give away pile!

A great place to buy unique and quirky tees is www.threadless.com. Threadless is a community based t-shirt company that sells shirts that are designed by people like you and me. T-shirt designs are submitted to Threadless and the Threadless community votes on which designs they like and those designs make it on to the tees to be sold. They have a great mix of tees for gals and guys in wide variety of prints and they do limited edition runs on the shirts so you likely won’t see your shirt walking around on someone else and every time you log on to their site you see new shirts. If you are in the market for some new tees this summer check out www.threadless.com.

Also check out the t-shirts for sale on the Able and Baker comic website, super cool!

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving! May your turkey be perfect, your mashed potatoes fluffy, your gravy thick and your pumpkin pie loaded with cool whip!

Once you have stuffed yourself full and gathered with all your family it is time for that time honored tradition known as Black Friday, one of the biggest shopping days of the year. Speaking as a professional shopper and a one time store owner, it is one of the most exciting days of the year! A whole day devoted to shopping, stores open early, crowds gather and stores’ books finally go into the black!

My advice to you would be to shop early and buy often, let’s get this economy going, also don’t forget to shop at some of the local owned stores in your city, they really need your support too. Also, please be nice to the salespeople, they work really hard and deserve to be treated with respect and kindness.

As a nod to this day of shopping here is a list of some of my favorite online shopping sites, many are having awesome online sales:

www.shopbop.com

www.activeendeavors.com

www.revolveclothing.com

www.pinkmascara.com

www.shoptwigs.com

www.tobi.com

www.bluebee.com

www.intermixonline.com

www.anthropologie.com

Happy Shopping!
