Fall Fashion Trends You Will Want To Wear: Get Your Cardi On

Cardigans are back, yet again, and are a truly, versatile separate that can instantly transform any outfit. This season you will see a wide variety of styles, cuts and shapes from long to short and slim to chunky.

Cardigans come in all colors this season with gray and black being the smart frontrunners but don’t be afraid to add a color to your closet. Novelty details like interesting collars, ruffles, beading and sequins add a bit of interest and look great paired with pants, skirts or dresses for day or night.

Play with proportions wearing a long cardigan over a short dress or skinny leggings or layer a 3/4 sleeve cardigan over a long sleeve shirt and don’t forget to layer great tanks, tees or button down shirts under the cardigans and top it off with a waist cinching belt.

These elongated neutral-hued knits work well with skinny jeans, leggings or pencil skirts. Available at

Fall Forward

Getting dressed this time of year can be a bit tricky, fall is on the horizon but in many places the weather is still too warm to start wearing all the hallmarks of fall, cozy sweaters, chic tights, knee high boots and slim cords. So what is a girl to do, how to look in season and in style without sweating? Here a few fool proof tips that will keep you looking great and feeling comfortable while gently propelling you into fall.

First things first, Labor Day has come and gone, so cover your white pants, jeans and skirts with plastic and box up your white shoes and purses and hang them in the back of your closet. There a few rules in fashion, anything usually goes, but the one hard and fast rule I always obey is no white after Labor Day. Next go through your spring/summer clothes and pull out anything made of linen or sheer gauzy fabric and pack up for next year, gauzy fabrics are just too whimsical for September.

Switch out your tank tops with short sleeve and 3/4 length sleeve tees and start wearing your long sleeve button up tops with the sleeves rolled up. Keep from wearing sweet and summery florals as well as colors that scream summer like lime green, bright pink, turquoise and yellow (unless you pair these bright colors with dark rich shades like black, charcoal or espresso). Start adding rich fall colors like pumpkin, loden, chocolate, eggplant, burgundy and pewter to your basic black and tan summer slacks and capris. Gap has a great selection of their favorite fit tees in the perfect shades for fall. On cooler days throw on your fall tweed, cord or velvet jackets with a fitted tee and capris. Cardigans are huge for fall and can easily be worn layered over sleeveless dresses or tanks on cool days.

As far as shoes go, it is probably too early to wear knee high boots but it is time to put the flip flops away (I know, I know, I hate to do it too, I love my flip flops but all good things come to an end). Switch your summery, strappy heels with more solid looking peep toes and in place of gladiator sandals and flip flops wear cute printed flats. Pack up your platform espadrilles. J.Crew has a great selection of cute flats perfect for buy now, wear now. Remember if anything looks too summery, it probably is!

Top Ten Trends for Fall-The Sexy Cardi

The cardigan is cool again for fall especially in cozy cashmere and a longer, sleeker length. Cardigans are the easiest way to layer up for fall and can be found at virtually every price point and store this season. To keep a cardigan from looking frumpy pair it with a laced trimmed cami or ruffly silk blouse and fitted bottoms like leggings, straight leg jeans and pencil skirts. Don’t forget to add a belt to help define your waist.

Top Ten Trends For Fall-Get Layered

Continuing on with the top ten trends for fall, I will be focusing on trend two, the layered look. Designers were piling on the layers on the runway and topping it all off with a waist-cinching, hour-glass making belt. Don’t be afraid to mix and match different colors, patterns, textures and fabrics to create this sophisticated, grown-up, somewhat boho look. To keep from adding too much weight keep your layers slim and well fitted, like a lightweight billowy silk top under a fitted cardigan sweater paired with a slim pencil skirt, tights and heels, and don’t forget the belt to remind people you have a waist under all the layers. Try this look with fitted, cropped jackets and keep your belt up at your natural waist as opposed to worn slung low in seasons past. Mix it up for fall and Get Layered!

Baby, It’s Cold Outside

Well, winter has whooshed in, in grand style, temps in the 20’s, wind chills in the teens mixed with drizzle, ice and sleet. It is that kind of ice/sleet mix where mother nature can’t really decide if she wants to drizzle, rain, sleet or snow, so she decides on a mix of all of it, and as far as I am concerned it is all yucky! So in honor of winter’s grand entrance I have picked my favorite cold weather items that will do their best to keep you warm, while keeping you looking stylish. Bundle up and stay warm!

The key to staying warm is layers, so start off with a silk long sleeve tee, pure silk traps in heat and wicks away moisture, my favorite is the Silk Pointelle Scoop Long Sleeve Tee by Lands End, available at

Next add the warm, snuggly item, which I happen to favor cashmere and love this cashmere cable knit sweater available at

As far as bottoms go, I prefer jeans that are made from a thicker denim with a straight leg, so I can tuck them into boots. Kasil jeans fit great, look amazing and are made from a super premium, high quality thicker denim. Available at

When it comes to keeping your feet warm, you can never go wrong with boots and Ugg boots in particular. Lucky for us, Ugg has moved on from their classic boots that were all the rage a few seasons ago and have designed very hip boots that will also keep your feet warm. Ugg Tess boots available at

A coat is imperative to keep the cold wind away and North Face makes the best coats, stylish and warm. The Northface Denali Jacket is made out of a Polartec fleece that features a water repellent finish and is warm while still being lightweight. Available at If you need a dressier coat check out J.Crew’s excellent selection, all are classy, lady-like and gorgeous. I love the Stadium Trench Coat, available at

Don’t forget a stylish scarf to top off your outfit, I always reach for my classic Burberry plaid scarf, warm, soft and sophisticated. Available at

Preppy Chic

It has finally turned cold enough to wear sweaters which has prompted me to search the web looking for cozy, unique sweaters. I have enough plain colors and was in need of something different when this adorable Autumn Cashmere sweater jumped off the screen at me, enticing me to click on it and promptly add it to my shopping cart.

I love the color combo of cheery yellow and sophisticated gray and how fresh it will look paired with a white tee, skinny jeans and knee high boots. Perfect for a day of holiday shopping or casual get together. The stripes remind me of a preppy rugby shirt. Autumn Cashmere is notorious for high quality, super soft cashmere for maximum warmth and snuggle factor! Available at

Look Good Do Good

Waste not, want not, does not really apply to fashion. Every season designers give us a delectable new array of goodies to choose from and even though most of my clothes (ok, all of my clothes) from last year are in perfect condition and able to be worn again I am usually tired of them and ready for something new. So I clean out my closet (I do keep and re-wear quite a few pieces) and then re-stock with all the new must-haves my wallet will allow!

This does however make me feel a tad wasteful and I was only too thrilled when I found a designer who uses recycled cashmere fabric to create gorgeous, artsy and eco-friendly sweaters. Burning Torch creates, each season limited edition sweaters that are patched together with luxurious cashmere extras left over from production thus not wasting any fabric. Plus, these sweaters are so gorgeous and timeless you will reach for them season after season. It’s a win win, look good while doing good!
