An Extra Inch – Stylish Boots For Wider Calves

“Dear Clotheshorse, I am loving all the fall knee-high boots this season but have a hard time finding a pair that will fit my calves. Are there any stylish boots out there for gals like me with wider calves?”

The above question was recently posed to me and I can sympathize since years of riding have left me with muscular calves that don’t always fit in tight, zip up, knee-high boots. After doing some extensive research I was able to find a treasure trove of stylish boots that come in wider calf widths, whether you need a little extra room or a lot there are great options out there.

Your first stop should be WideWidths.com, where every boot on their site comes in wide calf sizes. Ask and you shall receive via the internet, it truly has it all. WideWidths.com has a great selection of flat, high-heel, knee-high, over the knee, dressy and casual boots. A one stop shop! Many of the boots come in a variety of calf widths so take a soft tape measure and measure the widest part of your calf on both legs in order to determine which size will work best for you.

Naturalizer also has a great selection of boots that come in wider widths. Known for their extreme comfort these boots blend great fit, comfort and style seamlessly. Many styles are also on sale on their website Naturalizer.com.

Love these mid-heel boots with cute lace up detail. Wear dressy with tights and dresses or wear over skinny jeans with a silk camp shirt.

A tough motorcycle inspired flat boot that will work well with leggings, skinny jeans and a cozy cashmere sweater. Plus, they look just like a pair from Cole Haan but available in a wider calf width.

How adorable are these gray suede boots with sweater knit detail? I am so buying these.

You can’t do a footwear post without mentioning Zappos and they also have a nice selection of boots with wider calves. Click this link to see their selection or go to Zappos.com and search for wide calf boots.

Pyramid studs make these brown boots anything but basic.

A simple, elegant suede high-heel boot is a must-have for any winter wardrobe.

Wider calf riding boots can also be a challenge to find but SmartPak carries Fuller Fillies boots that come in a broader range of calf widths. Great for riding, showing or wearing out to dinner.

Shoe Week ~ Giddy Up

Flat riding-inspired boots are super hot for fall and make for an easy to wear, very fashionable partner for skinny jeans and leggings. I am especially in love with these riding boots since they so closely mirror the actual boots I ride in. There are so many great styles to choose from or you can go authentic and buy a real pair of riding boots. Here are a few of my favorites:

Go authentic with real riding boots, I am a fan of the Ariat Challenge II Field Boot, available online at www.smartpakequine.com.

Cole Haan always has the best boots and this season is no different, there are way too many gorgeous styles to choose from. Available online at www.colehaan.com.

Piperlime has a whole section devoted to riding boots, here are some of the best styles. Available online at www.piperlime.com.

These Charles David riding boots look like real riding boots. Available at www.shopbop.com.

Cozy Toes

I am totally in love with my new Ugg boots that arrived on my doorstep less than 24 hours after I ordered them from Zappos (if you haven’t heard, Zappos does free overnight shipping). The Ugg Classic Cardy Tall Boots are like wearing a warm cozy sweater on your feet. They wrap your legs in a warm, wooly, crochet knit and snuggle your feet on a bed of cozy sheepskin. Three oversized wood buttons allow the boots to be worn up, slouched down, slightly unbuttoned or completely cuffed down. They look cute worn with leggings, skinny jeans or boot leg jeans. Pure bliss for your toes! Available at www.zappos.com and www.uggaustralia.com.

Loving…

I am totally in love with these boots from Urban Outfitters. They are designed by blogger J. Aldridge (Sea of Shoes) for Urban Outfitters and are so cool. They look so much more expensive than they really are and will certainly add a kick to your closet. At first I thought it would be hard to figure out what to wear with them but the more I thought about it the more I realized you could wear them with everything. They can add edge to everything from a simple sweater dress to a pencil skirt and crisp button down to leggings and a big comfy sweater. They will definitely up your cool factor! Get yours at www.urbanoutfitters.com.

Fall Fashion Trends You Will Want To Wear – Boot Up

Boots are back in major way for fall! Boots of all kinds from the sexy, edgy over the knee boots to comfy, flat boots to spiked heel booties to slouchy boots in a wide range of colors are available at your favorite stores. Venture out from your basic black leather and instead opt for caramel distressed leather, velvety gray suede or a bright shade of purple. Knee high or over the knee boots still look great with tucked in skinny jeans or leggings and booties can be worn with dark tights and pencil skirts. Invest in a pair of great boots this season! Check out the great selections at www.piperlime.com, www.zappos.com and www.shopbop.com.

Over the knee boot are the new kid on the block this season and you need to keep a few things in mind so that you stay looking stylish instead of trampy. Tone down the color palette of your outfit and boots, keep it to shades of black, gray and cream, avoid looking trashy by covering up with opaque tights, longer skirts and jackets or wear them over a pair of skinny jeans or leggings, avoid patent leather opt for matte leather or suede and keep your other accessories simple, let the boots be the main attraction.

Ways to wear over the knee boots and some of my faves:

Via Spiga from www.piperlime.com.

Maria Sharapova for Cole Haan from www.piperlime.com.

Flat boots are the ultimate marriage between fashion and comfort. Keep from looking frumpy by buying them a interesting color or with fun details and always pair them with sleek, super skinny pants or jeans and keep your outfit monochromatic to elongate the look.

Ways to wear flat boots and some of my faves:

Bandolino from www.piperlime.com.

Being a horse girl I love these Frye Riding Boots from www.piperlime.com.

These super comfy Ugg boots hit three trends, flat, slouchy and gray suede from www.zappos.com.

Pull your short booties back out from last season and invest in another pair in a great color or with interesting details like zippers, flowers or peep toes. Wear them with short skinny pants that hit right at the top of the boots or with dresses and skirts with tights. Avoid tights with the peep toe booties, tights look okay with peep toe pumps but just silly with the bootie, you can wear footless tights and leggings if you want to keep your legs warm.

Ways to wear booties and a few of my faves:

I love this pair of booties from Lamb, the perfect blend of high heel shoe and bootie from www.piperlime.com.

Add a little color to your closet with these purple booties by Charles by Charles David from www.piperlime.com.

Don’t forget to have fun with your boots this season like adding these seriously drool worthy rocker girl boots by Rock & Republic from www.shopbop.com.
