Have You Met Kate?

If you are a fashionista you are probably quite familiar with Kate, as in Kate Spade. The original creator of one of the first “it” bags, the nylon, boxy Sam bag seen on the shoulders of many a fashionable woman in the 90’s. Since then the company has faltered and stagnated a bit but thanks to new creative director Deborah Lloyd (by way of Banana Republic and Burberry) it seems to be roaring back to its rightful place of high fashion.

Kate Spade just debuted its clothing collection and it is beyond fab! It is chocked full of trendy, mod pieces that can easily be mixed and matched adding a touch of drama and elegance to your wardrobe. The new shoes for fall are gorgeous and the handbags and jewelry are worth a look. Reacquaint yourself with the new Kate at www.katespade.com.

The Kate Spade items that are on my must have list.

Confessions of a Shopaholic

My husband was sweet enough to take me to see the chick flick  Confessions of a Shopaholic. I definitely recommend getting a group of girlfriends together to go see it, especially if you consider yourself a shopaholic! The movie is very loosely based on Sophie Kinsella’s best selling books Confessions of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Takes Manhattan. Isla Fisher is beyond adorable as the often times in denial, shopping obsessed Rebecca Bloomwood and Patricia Field (of Sex and The City fame) does an amazing and quirky job as costume designer dressing Isla in one creative, clever and totally unwearable but still drool worthy outfit after another. Add seeing this movie to your to do list!

Gossip Girl Style

I am assuming that many of you are huge Gossip Girl fans and whether you like the plot or not; it is worth watching for the drool worthy fashion that graces the TV every Monday on the CW network. Gossip Girl picked up where Sex and the City left off thanks to costume designer Eric Daman (who by the way worked for Patricia Fields on Sex and the City). Every week you get a healthy dose of extra-preppy, extra-stylish, super glam clothes and website Revolve Clothing teamed up with Eric Daman to create a fall look book full of their merchandise pulled together in true Gossip Girl style. So you too can now look like a Gossip Girl. Check it out at www.revolveclothing.com.

Coming Up Roses

Floral seems to be the print du jour for fall, but these florals are far from dainty, they tend to blend and swirl together like watercolors or make a bold statement with contrasting colors and graphic prints. Floral pieces in moderation can add a dynamic element to any wardrobe and jazz up plain basic staples. This graphic rose print by Trina Turk is beyond gorgeous with its sharp contrast of unique colors and rich, vibrant print. The print was used on a variety of pieces from dresses to shirts to skirts and comes in two color ways, fuschia, chartreuse and gray or royal blue, reddish brown and gray both equally as striking and elegant.

Trina Turk is available online at www.trinaturk.com, www.revolveclothing.com and www.nordstrom.com.

Fall Forward

Getting dressed this time of year can be a bit tricky, fall is on the horizon but in many places the weather is still too warm to start wearing all the hallmarks of fall, cozy sweaters, chic tights, knee high boots and slim cords. So what is a girl to do, how to look in season and in style without sweating? Here a few fool proof tips that will keep you looking great and feeling comfortable while gently propelling you into fall.

First things first, Labor Day has come and gone, so cover your white pants, jeans and skirts with plastic and box up your white shoes and purses and hang them in the back of your closet. There a few rules in fashion, anything usually goes, but the one hard and fast rule I always obey is no white after Labor Day. Next go through your spring/summer clothes and pull out anything made of linen or sheer gauzy fabric and pack up for next year, gauzy fabrics are just too whimsical for September.

Switch out your tank tops with short sleeve and 3/4 length sleeve tees and start wearing your long sleeve button up tops with the sleeves rolled up. Keep from wearing sweet and summery florals as well as colors that scream summer like lime green, bright pink, turquoise and yellow (unless you pair these bright colors with dark rich shades like black, charcoal or espresso). Start adding rich fall colors like pumpkin, loden, chocolate, eggplant, burgundy and pewter to your basic black and tan summer slacks and capris. Gap has a great selection of their favorite fit tees in the perfect shades for fall. On cooler days throw on your fall tweed, cord or velvet jackets with a fitted tee and capris. Cardigans are huge for fall and can easily be worn layered over sleeveless dresses or tanks on cool days.

As far as shoes go, it is probably too early to wear knee high boots but it is time to put the flip flops away (I know, I know, I hate to do it too, I love my flip flops but all good things come to an end). Switch your summery, strappy heels with more solid looking peep toes and in place of gladiator sandals and flip flops wear cute printed flats. Pack up your platform espadrilles. J.Crew has a great selection of cute flats perfect for buy now, wear now. Remember if anything looks too summery, it probably is!

Top Ten Trends for Fall-Wide Leg Trousers

Slim leggings and straight leg jeans and pants are not going to disappear this season but make room in your closet for wide leg trousers because they are in full force for fall. Look for wide leg styles with clean lines in elegant tweed, sharp pinstripes, and sleek satin and pair them with a fitted, belted jacket or frilly lace or floral blouse.

Top Ten Trends For Fall-Get Layered

Continuing on with the top ten trends for fall, I will be focusing on trend two, the layered look. Designers were piling on the layers on the runway and topping it all off with a waist-cinching, hour-glass making belt. Don’t be afraid to mix and match different colors, patterns, textures and fabrics to create this sophisticated, grown-up, somewhat boho look. To keep from adding too much weight keep your layers slim and well fitted, like a lightweight billowy silk top under a fitted cardigan sweater paired with a slim pencil skirt, tights and heels, and don’t forget the belt to remind people you have a waist under all the layers. Try this look with fitted, cropped jackets and keep your belt up at your natural waist as opposed to worn slung low in seasons past. Mix it up for fall and Get Layered!
