Five For Five: Anthropologie

Anthropologie is one of my all time favorite stores. Their mix of elegant boho chic clothing is always on-trend and in a class by itself. I use it to add wow pieces to my everyday basics.

Here are my favorite wow pieces that will easily add interest to what you already have. All pieces available online at www.anthropologie.com.

This crinkled jersey tank with chiffon petals just looks like summer. I can imagine it paired with cropped cuffed skinny jeans, white flip flops and coral toes.

This floral silk blouse will jazz up everything from jeans to dress pants to pencil skirts for work or play. The vibrant color palette is bright without being overpowering and the floral and stripe detail make it unique.

As I have said before, you can never have too many cardigans and I am loving this 3/4 sleeve style with spilling ruffles available in three colors. No matter what you pair with it, you will look amazing thanks to the framing effect ruffles have.

Warm weather brings with it the ability to use one of my favorite fashion tricks. Wearing a skirt instantly dresses you up in a hurry while also keeping you comfy. Add a great basic tee and fun wedges, flip flops or flats depending on where you are going and you instantly look chic. A famous fashion designer also said that when you wear a skirt no one will know the circumference of your thighs, allowing you to hide any unbearable assets attained during the winter months of hibernation. This skirt will be a unique asset to your fashion arsenal.

So many dresses have low plunging necklines and since I am not a big fan of showing off lots of cleavage I end up skipping on many dresses or having to add a cami underneath but that has all changed with this gorgeous dress. This black floral high necked, low backed dress is the epitome of garden chic. Add a chunky wide leather belt to give it an edge and away you go.

Five For Five: Banana Republic

It is day two of my five days, five stores, five must haves for spring and it’s all about Banana Republic today. Banana Republic is the grown up more sophisticated sibling of The Gap and one of my favorite go-to stores. Besides their clothes you can often find great handbags and very on trend yet highly fashionable jewelry.

The five things that will serve you well this spring and that I plan on adding to my closet, all available at www.bananarepublic.com.

You can never have enough cardigans for spring and this silk cotton blend with exposed seams is available in 12 colors with a long, lean silhouette. Wear it as a jacket over silky tops and dresses or use it to add style to rugged boyfriend jeans.

Banana Republic is famous for it’s amazing fitting button down shirts for men and women and this cotton safari shirt is no exception. Available in five colors it has a soft texture and silky sheen and will instantly update everything in your closet. Wear it on the weekends with jeans for a laid-back sophisticated look or reach for it on hectic workdays to wear with pencil skirts and dress pants.

It is all about the loose pant for spring and I plan on living in these on the weekends with a fitted black tee and flip flops. The drawstring ankles add a bit of playfulness and will show off flip flops and a pedicure nicely. Fashion made easy and comfy!

I am a sucker for animal prints and this jaguar print silk dress is sophisticated in shades of gold and gray. Wear it paired with nude platforms and a gray cardigan early on and switch to gold flip flops as it gets warmer.

This leather motorcycle jacket hits two trends on the head with its light neutral color and tough jacket style that looks so good paired with silk feminine tops and dresses. It is an effortless piece that you can wear season after season without going out of style.

Spring Fashion Trends

Spring is so very close, I can smell it in the air! While researching the top trends for spring I noticed that for the most part spring fashion is a hodge-podge of all kinds of things. Designers were all over the place, but here is a list my favorite spring trends that are very wearable.

Shift In To Neutral

Neutral tones, champagne, beige and all shades of gray, ruled the runways and are popping up in every store. Add a fun tank and dress in a neutral shade to your spring wardrobe to be on trend but beware if you are fair, make sure to user self-tanner and bronzer to keep from looking washed out.

Two cute neutrals from J Crew.

Loosen Up

Trousers loosen up for spring giving our thighs and hips a break. Loose, slouchy trousers look cool and relaxed when paired with wedges and fitted tanks and jackets.

Shopbop has a huge selection of slouchy trousers.

Stripes, Stripes, Stripes

Preppy looks frequented the runway lead in part by stripes on everything from tops to skirts to socks. Stripes always look bright and fresh for spring and one or two pieces will easily fit in with your wardrobe.

I love this stripe skirt from Kate Spade and this sweater from Anthropologie.

Mix and Match

Bright, wild prints dominated the runways and printed pieces will add cheer to spring. Designers often mixed and matched contrasting prints which I encourage if you have a good eye, but if not stick with adding one brightly colored print item.

Both of these pieces from Anthropologie are an easy and chic way to add prints to your style, just don’t wear them together!

A Quick Word On Denim

Loose, slouchy boyfriend jeans and skinny cropped jeans continue to share space with skinny long jeans, jeggings and basic bootcut jeans. Many brands are showing ripped up, destroyed denim but don’t buy an expensive pair, I think it will soon be a passe trend. As far as color goes, you will see a comeback of lighter washes as well as your basic dark colors. It is better to avoid trends and just find jeans that fit you really well and look great.

J Crew has a good variety of jeans at a good price.
